Working hard both spiritually and physically

Hola familia!

This has been a fast and crazy week! We have been working hard, both spiritually and physically! and the physically was very hard! On Wednesday we went and did service, we helped cut grass, but it is definitely not as fun with dull machetes! But we did, and then after that we stopped and helped a guy dig a trench like a sprinkler trench with a pick axe. After, when I finally finished with that, when I didnt have much energy left, we went and cut another persons grass, haha. I thought I would only leave with blisters, but then the next day I was super sick with the fever and chills. I think it was heat exhaustion! haha Oh well at least I got to play with machetes!

Also, we have been working really hard to find new investigators, since we have baptized all of them! So this week our goal was to find 8 new investigators, which was a really high goal, but by the end of the week, we found 11 new investigators. So now our goal is to teach and then hopefully baptize them!

We also did divisions with some of the future missionaries in the ward. It was fun to go around and teach them. I wish I could have done that before the mish! But it was cool, I got a baptism date with Daniella for the 16 of November, so we really have got to work hard with her, and get her to come to church. Daniella is 14 years old but she is really nice and she said that she knows what we are teaching is true, so that's cool.

Also, today we had an awesome p day with the zone. We went to this place called the Canopy, and its like a resort, really nice with pools and everything. While I was there, It didnt even seen like I was in guatemala. But they have these huge zip lines and you are like 50 to 60 feet in the air, it was fun!!

Sounds like everyone has had a good week, too bad for the Honda, I still think you should save it for me when I get back and I can enter it in a derby or something!!!.......Or you could just store it at the farm! Thanks! Les amo!

It is getting hot here!

Hola familia!!

It has been another fast week! And oh my gosh it is getting hot here! It's sooooo hard to work in the mornings and afternoon, because it gets so hot and we get so tired, but we do it haha! My favorite time to go out and work is at night time when people are actually home and it is cool outside!

This week we have been working really hard on finding new investigators, because we baptized all our other investigators. We have talked to a lot of people. I actually really like street contacting, and I try to find a way to talk to everyone in the street if I have time. It's nice because all the people here want to talk to Americans. But anyways, first I just talk about Guatemala and then casually bring up the church, and everytime after I'm done they always say I can come to their house and visit them! This week we now have 6 more new investigators who we have visited after talking to them on the street! So that has been very exciting.

It's crazy how fast October is going by! I now only have 3 more weeks left with my trainer and then who knows what's gonna happen. I'm pretty sure that I get my same area. I think I will be in my area until January! I'm hopin for a gringo companion but who knows haha! It will be good! It sounds like everyone has had a great week and have a great week this week! ¡Que loco!

¡Hola mi familia!

Well this week went by sooooooo fast. I can't belive we are almost halfway through October! Que loco! Well me and my companion dunked another investigator, which equals out to be 4 baptisms in 4 weeks! Haha, but we ran out of investigators, so this week we need to work really hard on finding them.

I feel like my spanish is improving, and I even taught some english last week! It went well, and afterwards everyone tried teaching me spanish haha! My spanish is actually pretty good. I can now almost understand everything. My only problem is speaking perfectly, but I'm working on it!

I can't believe I missed the 1st walking dead episode this year. But I have decided that if that same thing happened here in Guatemala, that I would be just fine, because my neighbors have this huge gated concrete compound and I would just go live with them. They have chickens and everything! Haha, I took a picture of their house!

I went on divisions this week with one of the zone leaders, Elder Jerez. I was actually in his area, which is more in the city. It was great, because I learned a lot from him about how to teach, and how to be an obediant missionary.

It hasn't rained very much this week, but it sure has been hot and humid. Maybe when I come back, I won't hate the snow so much! During the nights, because we are in the mountains, which is close to the same altitude as Utah, it gets pretty cold and it feels so good!

Well I got my package today! I can't wait to open it. Everytime I get a package it is like Christmas! Well you guys have a great week! I went hard on those tortillas this week! Les amo!

3 Months!

Hola Familia!

Well I had another baptism! So that makes 3 in the past 3 weeks, and we have 2 next weekend hahaha! It's great! Elder Zambrano told me that this is the most baptisms he's ever had in such a short amount of time, so that made me feel good about my work. It's so hot here now, and I miss the rain. I think I would even take some Cache Valley weather over this, oh well. Also, today I met my abuelo in the mish, and he was so cool! This week I will have been out 3 months! I can't believe how fast it is going by. I love my area and the members are awesome! We get fed so much, but I am still loosing weight haha. Probably from all that walking.

If you haven't noticed in my pictures, there are seriously more dogs than people here, and sometimes they join in packs and are mean! I've gotten to be really good at aiming with rocks. Haha, almost all of the dogs here are scared of me now!

Well after these next 3 baptisms, we won't have any more investigators. So I have been trying hard to just talk with everyone. It's great because I can practice my spanish, and share the gospel! But it's just cool how the Lord places people in your path who are ready for the gospel. All we have to do is act on it and work hard. But anyways, I was talking to this lady while we were waiting for a bus, and she was nice. I have the best casual way to bring up the gospel, because some people think us missionaries are weird. But anyways, she told me where she lived and I told her we would come visit her. The next day we went out looking for her house and couldn't find it. I was sad because she was really nice, but then the day after that we were walking and we heard a voice yelling ELDERS and we look back and it was her!! She told us that her brother died yesterday and that she knows we can help her. That definitely strengthened my testimony of the work of the Lord! Hopefully, as we share the gospel with her she can find peace. We have an appointment with her tomorrow!

General Conference was amazing! And us gringos got to watch all of it, but priesthood session in english! I really liked President Eryings talk Sunday morning, about the lady whose grandson was in jail and that she got a feeling that God put her with him because he knew that she would love him no matter what. That definitely made me think of those I have been in contact with. I also really liked President Monson's talk about the guy who couldn't see and hear, but the best talk was that guy from Africa!! He had the coolest accent and everything! haha

I can't believe that had to happen to chuckie, I received a lot of trash talking today from the BYU fans, haha, oh well! I'm glad all is well!!! Les amo!!!

hola familia!

Que onda? This week went by so fast. We had another baptism! It was great. His name is Jose Luis and he has been an investigator for over 2 years now but we finally got him to commit to baptism! I think that the gospel is really going to help him out in his life. Holy cow, this week there wasn't any rain and it got really hot! At first I hated the rain, but now I miss it!

I can't believe that it's almost October and that I almost have 3 months in the mish. The time flies by! This next week will be general conference. I am excited to listen to the prophet and apostles! To watch it, we have to go to the church, and of course it's in spanish. So I might just fall asleep listening to the monotone voices of the translators, instead of the power in the voices like Jeffery R. Holland haha!

Because we had a baptism, my trainer said we got to celebrate. We went to the market and bought potatoes, rice, and fresh chicken. We then went back to our house and cooked it! Although I thought I might get sick from the chicken, I couldn't help but eat it. It smelled so good as it was being fried, and all it needed to be better, would have been some orange chicken sauce. You will have to send me the recipe mom! Also I made a great smoothie for breakfast. At lunch once a week, this one lady piles us up with food and she literally gives us a huge basket of fruit and expects us to eat it haha. We wait for her to leave the room and we put all of the fruit in our backpacks, and the next day I make smoothies with it! But seriously you guys have to try this, frozen bananas, strawberrys, milk, and a ton of peanut butter! It was so good!

Well it sounds like most of you guys had a great week! I can't wait to hear about how the Aggies beat BYU! Les amo!!!

This week has gone by so fast, holy cow! I also got my first baptism! It was amazing! His name is Miguel and he is 20. He has a girlfriend who is a member and he told the bishop that he wasn't being baptized for his girlfriend but that he knew that it was the right thing to do! We also have a baptism for next weekend as well. This guy is cool his name is Jose Luis and he is in his late 30's. He's one of those guys who has always been taking lessons but hasn't commited. But we got him to commit and he had to come to church one more time and he came this Sunday!

Also I translated a wedding from spanish to english! We have an investigator named Ingrid and she got married to this gringo. He came for only 4 days but he was so cool! He was from South Carolina, and he had a sweet accent. Haha, He's lived in Guatemala for a total of 2 years and I know more spanish than him in 2 months! I just love going over there and speaking english with them.

We also went to this way cool waterfall! It's like a spring that comes out of the mountain, but since so much water comes out of it, it just shoots out like a huge waterfall. It's as wide as 200 ft. It was cool and it was in my area! I didnt even know about it, but it's called the San Juan river and it's in Guacatan! Besides that, not much has happened. I've just been working and trying not to get soaked from all the rain everyday! Oh ya, and I've been busy eating those tortillas! Los amo!

Wow, I can't believe that another week has gone by!!! When your working hard and focusing on the work it goes by so much faster! I also reached my 2 months in the mish this week! Nothing too much has happened this week, but it's always good to hear that the Aggies won!

I went on divisions again with Elder Quackimarca, he is from Peru. Although I didn't get to speak english again, it was nice to learn how to actually teach! Also, I got a date for a baptism, and I taught most of the lesson and I even asked him. His name is Josue Luis and he is calidad (cool). My spanish is improving now that my companion lets me have launguage study everyday for a half hour. I have been memorizing 50 words a day which I think is crazy! But I can speak whatever I need to say and I can teach the lessons pretty good! My only problem is understanding what they are saying! Oh well, it will come.

Pleeeaaassseee you guys think your rain is bad! It rains here everyday and when it rains it pours. They say it's raining cats and dogs . . . . . if anything here, it's raining cows and horses! And half the roads aren't paved here so I pretty much walk in a river of mud everyday! Haha, thank goodness I've got my boots! And mom, please, the spiders in Utah are nothing compared to the spiders here, good thing I took a picture of this spider in our house last week. I thought it was fake it was so big and when I went to touch it, it had like over 200 babies on its back and they all started crawling everywhere! While I was killing all the babies, it looked like I was dancing haha!

It sounds like you guys want to hear my schedule! Well, I wake up at 6:30 and exercise. I've got a great abb work out and then I do push ups and other stuff. Then from 7 to 8, I shower with a bucket, iron my clothes, eat breakfast, and chill. From 8 to 9 I have personal studay and for a half hour of that I read in the scriptures and the other I read preach my gospel and study for my investigators. Then from 9 to 10 we have companion study. Then from 10 to 1 we go and preach the gospel. At 1:30 we have almuerzo (lunch) and then from 2:30 to 3, I have language study . . . . finally! Then from 3:00 to 9, more preaching the gospel and on Wednesday nights we have ward family home evening. Usually there's something different to do every night. Then at 9:30 we come back and I find something to eat, we plan for the next day and get ready for bed.

It's always great to hear from all of you guys! Have a great week and tell Spencer that he is lucky that he gets to go to the USC game and to send me some pictures! Los amo!!!!
