I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face.

Hola Familia!

3 John 1:13-14

13 I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:

14 But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.

Saying goodbye to Claudia

This week has been a great week, as are all the weeks in the mission.

Hola Familia!

This week has been a great week, as are all the weeks in the mission. Elder Guzman and I went and did splits in Colotenango and Ixta, which are high up in the mountaintops of the Cuchumatanes. It was really cool because the people there speak more Mam than Spanish, so I got to practice my Mam again!

While I was there I found a book called, Exploring the Lands of the Book of Mormon. It is an 800 page text book that relates the Nephites and Lamanites to the Mayas and Omlecs that lived in Guatemala and the lower part of Mexico. I really like it because I agree with everything that it says after living in Guatemala for 2 years. For example the language Mam is the oldest recorded language found here going as far back as 3000 BC, which means that the Jaredites spoke it, which means that I can speak a little bit of the Jaredite language. ;)

It also talked about the name Mormon. In the language Maya, mor = mountain and mon = wild beast. In Mosiah 18:4 it talks about the waters of Mormon and how it was infested by wild beasts. Well now we know why it was called the waters of MORMON.

Other than studying more about the Book of Mormon, I just thought it was so cool as I got to church on Sunday. First of all, when I entered into the church there was Wilson, dressed up in a suit, clean shaven with his family greeting the people as they walked in. Then as I sat down by Claudia, we got to see Pocho and Diego bless the sacrament for the very first time. I felt the spirit so strongly as I have seen great changes in all my converts here.

As I have been thinking about leaving next week, I am so grateful for technology so I can always communicate with my converts. I know that the Lord prepared technology for many good reasons, like learning more about the people of the Book of Mormon, and for even being able to encourage converts to endure to the end. This is the true church.

WIlson's baptism

Hola Familia!

Wow the weeks are flying by! So last Tuesday we met with Wilson and his family. Wilson told us that he wanted to be baptized this Friday, so we were happy with that! On Wednesday we made invitations and Wilson had his baptism interview.

Thursday in the morning Elder Guzman and I left Elder Sanchez and Elder Abreu at home, as we traveled to Santa Ana Huista to do divisions. Elder Guzman went with the elders in Santa Ana and I went with the elders in San Antonio, which is the farthest area in the mission. It was super cool. Their chapel doesn't have a baptismal font, so we spent most of the day searching for a river to baptize in!

On Friday we traveled back to Huehue and stopped halfway in Colotenango to do a baptism interview for some of the elders there. We then made it back just in time for Wilson's baptism. It was a very special baptism, for 2 reasons: Number 1, Wilson worked hard to receive a testimony. He is now in 3rd Nephi. I know that he will be a faithful member. Number 2, by baptizing Wilson we helped complete an eternal family. :) Now they have a goal to get sealed as a family in one year! I sure hope I will be able to attend that special day with them.

On Sunday we were able to bring Jorge and Maria to church. Jorge received an answer through a dream that this is the true church and he is working hard to leave behind his old traditions to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints!

Well one week down.......2 more to go! Think of all the good my companion and I can do in 2 weeks!

The importance of having faith and the Spirit with me

Hola Familia!

This week has been another great week! Especially due to a miracle that we experienced this week.

So we have been teaching Hermano Wilson since we've been here in Sion. He's really nice. His wife and kids were baptized about a year ago. But he still hadn't made the decision to be baptized. During the 2 months that we have been teaching him, we have invited him to be baptized like 5 or 6 times and he always said that he wanted to, but that he didn't have the desire to do it. We also invited him to church every Sunday, but he never came. But one thing that he has been doing, is reading the Book of Mormon.

Finally last Sunday, he came to church with his family. When we saw him there, we were completely shocked!! We didn't believe that it was him. This last Tuesday we visited him and asked how was church and what helped him decide to come to church. He told us that he has read to Alma 23 and that he knows that the Book of Mormon is true, and that he can't deny it. After hearing that of course we invited him to be baptized and he said yes. After that my companion asked him when, and he said as soon as possible! So we will be baptizing him on the 13th of this month!

I think the best part about the mission is seeing all the miracles. I could be the smartest missionary in the world, but If I don't have faith or the Spirit with me, then I cannot be successful. When we have those 2 things, it doesn't matter what we say, because the Lord will always do His part to touch the hearts of our investigators.

Other than that, this week I got parasites and an intestinal infection.......but overall I would have to say that it has been a really good week!
